Synopsis: This story is a retelling of a Lakota legend detailing how the Great Spirit gave the Lakota people the Sacred Calf Pipe so they could pray and commune with him.  At the beginning of the story, the old world comes to an end, and a new nation is born.  After wars and strife, the White Buffalo Woman appears with the gift of the Sacred Calf Pipe. 

The last two pages of the book describe the pipe in detail, going into depth on the meaning of the symbols and ornaments that it is decorated with.
